THE AWAKENING By Donald Mecham
Have you ever looked at your life and said, "I'm doing just fine and I couldn't be happier than I am right now?" Have you told yourself, "I know how to do that," and then gone about doing it as if you knew everything there was to know about it? Before you decide to do something, are you open to other opinions? Did you search for other ideas or ideals? Have you ever thought there could be more to life than the way you see it at the moment? Have you dared to realize your life could be likened to a multifaceted diamond with its many facets giving of their light and energy, working together to produce a multitude of things you have yet to dream about, each thing in its own beautiful brilliance? If so, will you come to realize there is a Universe with its endless opportunity for your growth, each opportunity in its own brilliant unbelievable way? And will you, at some point, fully realize you are at one with it all, having a full awareness of all there is to know about anything you wish to have or be?
There is a story told about the butterfly (author unknown). It seems a man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further.
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wing would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.
What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly! End of story!
Where do you stand in the story of your life? Are you or were you the butterfly, the man? Have you come to realize, that the only thing in life that's permanent is change, in which every new moment is different than the previous one, and that none of any moments you have had have been exactly the same? Does this tell you something? If it does, what changes would you make for yourself?
In your growth have you noticed how certain methods of thought and action seem to work better than others? This is because of The Natural Law of Cause and Effect. You will find that all things in The Universe have an energy force or life. When you, through thought, create new or different thoughts, the energies are disrupted. When this happens to any energy, in an effort to be in the oneness with The Universe, it will blend with the new energies and thus creating what we know as the Natural Law of Balance.
While balance is good, you will find extreme ideas of an opposite nature can be good for progress. Every energy force has a positive and negative side to it. The greater the understanding of the negative side you have, the greater the understanding of positive you will be able to achieve. How many times have you played the part of the Butterfly? How many times have you played the part of the Man? How many times other things?
It always is good to remember that no matter where your life, or lives, has taken you; the journey has been one of your choosing. With your thoughts and ideas you have created the Ideal situation you now find yourself in. As you continue on your journey, into eternity, be ever mindful how you reached your Ideal situation of today as your journey continues in your seeking of all your tomorrows. You are the captain of your soul; as you chart your course know that you are at one with the Universal God Force, you are a God in the making.
