Kindred Spirit Issue No 59 Summer 2002
If anyone wants living proof that healing works, Robyn Welch points to her own body, injured in a car crash. "I should be a Vegetable, darling," she says, in her gentle Australian accent. "My Back was broken in three places, my ankle was literally hanging off and I had to have 200 stitches to piece it all back together. But I recovered and I've run ten marathons since ".
If Mr Motivator promises to get your body 's muscles into tones-up shape, Robyn Welch hopes to talk your internal organs into peak performance.
Her premise is simple and motivating: "You can talk your body well- as long as there is no major illness going on". However, Robyn herself started focusing her energy on making her body well when she had a serious illness.
Some years before the car accident, Robyn had been diagnosed with a tumour in the uterus and arrangements were made for surgery four days later.
"My mind whirred as I lay in bed the night I had been diagnosed; what if I die ? What if I don't see my children grow up? ". When pessimistic thoughts came in, I desperately tried to put them aside. I could not let them get the better of me. " Although she had rescued stray animals and stressed chickens before, this was the first time she had put her healing technique into practice on a human body.
"Suddenly some powerful force in my instinctual being seemed to take over and brushed the negativity from my mind. My thoughts became strongly positive, giving me directions to heal the tumour. It wasn't a visual image or a voice in my head- I simply knew that I should bring white light into my third eye region near the centre of my forehead. When my forehead was full of energetic light, I directed it as a fine ray through my body to the tumour. I went through this process for two nights but on the third night I could not do it. It was as though I didn't have the power. Then my mind said " It's okay. The Tumour has gone".
She kept her hospital appointment and told the doctor she had "zapped" her tumour with energy. " I learned very quickly that you don't talk to medical doctors this way", she said.
That was in 1979. Two years later a car crash left Robyn for dead. Although her life was in tatters physically and financially, psychically she was making progress as her spiritual journey was starting to unfold.
In her book Conversations with the Body. Robyn Welch describes how with sheer determination and perseverance she gradually recovered from the car accident that had left her physically and emotionally shattered, with blurred eyesight, loss of memory and cognitive difficulties caused by her head injuries.
"My condition terrified me. The well balanced person I'd always considered myself to be was gone. It had been replaced with an aggressive, frustrated creature with double vision and slurred speech who made little sense. It seemed everything had been taken from me".
Having led an active outdoor life as an avid horse rider and trainer, the immobility was hard to bear. She was left with little hope of ever making a full recovery but while she was languishing in pain she started to practise conversing with each of her body parts in turn and sending them encouragement and energy, as she discovered she could 'see' inside her own and other peoples bodies. The healing process was to take more than eight years but eventually she made a full recovery.
The last bit was the longest, when she wondered if she would ever see the light at the end of the tunnel.
" I often found myself in the dark valleys of despair that I struggled to find my way out of" she says "When you're sick you have low energy. There are energy vortexes like whirlpools that seem to hold you down. It takes an almighty boost to pull yourself out of it".
Always a risk-taker, before the accident she had been travelling back and forth from Australia to South East Asia for her clothing design business. As soon as she recovered; she took off for Hawaii and the USA with no money to live on and none for a return flight home, intent on spreading this innovative healing method.
Her travels took her to healing and meditation groups, to psychics and mystics fairs, to mountain and ashrams, as she sought out God or healing energy. At first she gave healing for no charge, and poured her material ambition into her clothing design business. She now travels the world offering healing sessions, in person or over the telephone, and charges £150.00 for each consultation to cover her air fares, hotel bills, and the living expenses of bringing the work to different countries. Typically a client will have four sessions.
Robyn Welch's healing method would not suit everyone -someone very rational who would want technical information about their treatment would not find the explanation plausible. But her group work is powerful, dynamic and transformative, and her approach is warm, encouraging and intuitive and many of those she has treated privately take of it as a miracle cure. She says' People find my work " Disbelieveable " because it's painless. People expect pain and suffering".
She has hundreds of grateful testimonial letters. One of her clients Elizabeth, herself a healer was suffering from severe back pain from a trapped disc for many months. She told Kindred Spirit that after one telephone consultation the pain was gone. " I slept for the rest of the weekend", said Elizabeth.
Another client had had a persistent chest infection for months after having pneumonia. She said the cough-cleared up after one consultation.
Steve, a rock musician concerned about his heavy drinking, had a healing session to give him the confidence to clean up his act and get his life back in control.
Jim sought healing for chronic fatigue syndrome and digestive disorders, which his doctors had been unable to treat.
Robyn says children are particularly responsive to healing, and she often contacts hospices to offer her services for terminally sick children she feels she can help.
She said: "We'll always need the medical world for emergency repairs - if you have a shattered leg you need to get it fixed up. But as to the rest, prevention is far better than cure".
Alongside sensible advice about eating organic, getting plenty of exercise, and taking an annual worming tablets. Conversations with the body-style prevention means having a daily pep talk with you pineal gland, giving a message of heartfelt thanks to your heart, blowing a kiss to your kidneys and sending love to your over-worked liver. I must admit when I first did this it sounded humorous as I said "Thank you heart, thank you liver". It was as though my whole insides had a fit of the giggles" she says - "Now I just say " Thanks Team".
Her healing method is based on clearing negativity from a person's energy field, and sending positivity and gratitude to each of the body's organs in turn. She believes your body parts are sentient and respond to encouragement, and she urges everyone to have a conversation with their body before going to sleep, listening for early signals of disease.
When she has a healing conversation with a client's body, she visualises the flow of energy within the system. She adjusts the flow of the fluid round the brain to ensure it is flowing in a smooth pattern, cleans debris from around the optical nerves, clears the sinuses - which are important for electrical flow through to the brain - checks the glands and realigns the spine. She says she sometimes has to 'birth' a pineal gland that has become stuck, or encourage an overcompensating organ to hand back the power to its weaker counterpart.
Although she is not detailed in her scientific explanation, she quotes Dr Valerie Hunt's work on energy, saying, that the earth resonates 7.8 cycles per second. Our bodies are tuned to this frequency. However, electromagnetic and electrical pollution from televisions, hair dryers and computers spins anticlockwise stressing our energy fields with its dissonant vibrations.
'Mixed frequencies clutter our brains and the transmission of electrical impulses from the brain to other parts of the body becomes jumbled. This impairs the quality of energy transmission in the field and within the body. According to some investigators, electromagnetic energy penetrates at a cellular level. by entering the DNA. and may cause dormant viruses to mutate, weakening our immune system and causing disease. She adds: 'I believe electrical pollution is one of the causes of cancer'.
Her method also involves taking responsibility for keeping your moods and states of mind in check and cleansing your aura or energy body. 'The energy field we live in is very large. sometimes more than 40 feet in diameter. Negative thoughts and feelings look like dirty, snowy obstructions'.
Forgiveness, taking responsibility for what she calls your programme, and a willingness to move on are key cornerstones of Robyn's philosophy.
Part of her own healing process involved leaving her husband, who drank heavily, and letting go of the hurt about her childhood. Her mother died of cancer very young and her father was emotionally reserved and heavy handed.
'You have to take responsibility for pain in the past and move on. The ability to heal wasn't handed to me on a plate, I have clambered through whatever life has thrown at me to get here'.
